Abstract

MELO, Francisco Ricardo Lins Vieira de  and  PEREIRA, Ana Paula Medeiros. Inclusão escolar do aluno com deficiência física: visão dos professores acerca da colaboração do fisioterapeuta. Rev. bras. educ. espec. [online]. 2013, vol.19, n.01, pp.93-106. ISSN 1413-6538.

The school inclusion paradigm points to the need for organizational restructuring of regular educational institutions. Therefore, a network of support and cooperation is necessary among the sectors of education, health and social care. This paper investigates what regular school teachers think about the collaboration of physiotherapists in this process. This is a qualitative study using an exploratory approach; data was collected using a questionnaire administered to 22 teachers from three randomly selected schools and analyzed according to categories. All teachers recognized the importance of health professionals participation to enable the inclusion of students with disabilities, and in the case of physiotherapists, all but one of the teachers stated this helps the inclusion of students with physical disabilities. With the sharing of information between teachers and therapists, and as orientation is carried out, physiotherapy can contribute to school inclusion, however, cooperation would be more effective if there were permanent conditions for debate, reflection and experience exchange among professionals working together in schools.
