Abstract

LIMA, Laís Batista de  and  JURDI, Andrea Perosa Saigh. Employment of people with desabilities in Santos/SP: mapping public policies and institucional practices. Rev. bras. educ. espec. [online]. 2014, vol.20, n.4, pp.513-523. ISSN 1413-6538.  https://doi.org//10.1590/S1413-65382014000400004.

Despite the gradual progress that Brazil has shown regarding the rights of people with disabilities, their full participation and inclusion in the realm of work has been shown to be far from satisfactory. In our society work is an important factor in valuing the individual and performing work activities that enable him to feel like an integral and active participant in everyday social relations. The objective was to identify and analyze the existing institutional practices and public policies in the municipality of Santos focused on employability of people with disabilities. To this end, visits / interviews were conducted in institutions that cater to this audience and reported to be related to the insertion of people with disabilities in the competitive labor market activities. Through the application of semi structured interviews, it was possible to map the methodologies used by the institutions for inclusion of people with disabilities in the labor market, and analyze their territorial claims and their importance to users. The results showed that there are no specific policies in the city of Santos / SP focused on the integration of people with disabilities in the world of work and, despite the efforts of a few institutions in the city to empower these people, there is no methodology parameter to guide employability projects, and each institution had its own working strategies, making it difficult to ensure efficient and quality services, aiming at full inclusion of people with disabilities.
