Abstract

CAMPBELL E., Juan Carlos. La educación superior en Chile: cambios y desafios. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 1997, vol.02, n.04, pp.25-30. ISSN 1414-4077.

This article (High Education in Chile: Changes and Challenges) deals with the modernization of universities in Chile as part of the program of modernizations made in this country since 1980. The reform of the institutional model translates herself in deep changes in the structure, organization and financing of the university institutions. The private section acquires growing presence and importance. The state contribution to the public universities decreases in more than 40%, forcing the creation of some courses and the closing of others. The system became more heterogeneous and differentiated and its relationships with the society, with the market and with the government they made complex and, frequently, frustrating. The public universities weakened and measure they lost its mission sense.

Keywords : Chilean University; Privatization; Modernization; For-Profit Education.
