We discuss the use of computational systems on evaluation processes, based on our experience with the Institutional Evaluation of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The first section shows a brief discussion of the different databases related to Higher Education in Brazil (CNPq, MEC - SESU, CAPES, INEP among others). In the second section, we discuss the problems involved in getting information from a large number of sources and which consequently require the support of computational systems. In the third section we discuss the problem of the treatment of these various kinds of information as well as its dissemination in the academic melieu.
