The prevailing trends in the international context and the incidence of the same ones in the higher education are analyzed here. One considers that the creation of an evaluation culture is essential like support of the continuous improvement. In addition, the problems and challenges are analyzed that appear when the processes of self evaluation and external evaluation in universities of the Region are carried out.
