The purpose of this text is to discuss and situate educational innovation in the context of the complex ecology of present-day web society. Without trying to offer an exhaustive list of contemporary educational problems, the author points to three of them: democracy in education, the defense of public education, and the risks and opportunities of web society. Relying upon the concepts developed by Habermas, the author points out the necessity of recovering the idea of value-oriented actions-actions prematurely discarded by Weber that is, effort centered upon the development of social and communicative practices which are ethically justifiable and capable of resisting the efficientism and immediatism of the market.
