Abstract

The text introduces two contradictory conceptions of university and their consequent conceptions of institutional evaluation: (1) the World Bank's and (2) UNESCO's. It also introduces a discussion about the concepts of quality from the "efficientist" and from the social and humanistic perspectives. It criticizes evaluations which try to "measure quality" according to the logic of the market and defends that it is up to the university to define the criteria by which it intends to evaluate itself and be evaluated by its peers.
