This paper describes the professional pro file of chemistry graduates who majored at UFMG from 1990 to 1996. The analysis includes aspects such as the post-graduate courses they attended, their personal in come, the kind of present professional activity, and the level of satisfaction regarding this activity. We present also the reasons they allege for deciding to study chemistry as well as the socioeconomic profile of their families at the time when they entered the UFMG. We requested them also to present both a critical assessment of the curriculum, and suggestions for improving it. Our analyses consider four variables: sex, kind of degree obtained (Bachelor or licentiate Teacher), number of years to complete the undergraduate studies, and number of years of professional experience. We show that all these variables affect the professional profile, sometimes in an unanticipated way.
