The reflexions contained in this text are related to the departmental unit as form of university organization. Actually several universities are questioning if department is the unit that corresponds to the new forms of producing. researching and to teaching knowledge. The current historical moment, lifted by the post-modernity and for the interdisciplinarity put in check the traditional division of the knowledge into departments. The text includes a brief historical evolution of the departments relating them to the form of conceiving knowledge and specializations. After, it shows considerations about experiences of interdisciplinarities and other propositions of university structure.
