Starting with a critical discussion of the role of the sciences in social and economic development, the author introductions an innovating reflection on the implication for the humanities and for the sciences of the new relation of research with the state, private business, and the third sector. Establishing a different between the epistemological foundation of the exact sciences and the humanities, the author analyses the forms of its social production and the timing for its maturation. Because of its interactive nature the humanities are not compatible with the more evaluation by peers, as used in the exact sciences, for their evaluation that the social beneficiaries be incorporated.
