This study was done with the objective of giving dimensions to the quality of the spread of scientifical investigation in the universities. The study was accomplished in the area of Veterinary Medicine at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria - UFSM as an alternative proposal of assessment. There was attributed degree the variable level of the spread of scientifical investigation, starting from an analysis of the following variable connected: research type, spread form, target public reached in events and largeness of the spread. In that way, the levels of the spread were classified in high, medium, low and very low. The level of the spread of the cientifical investigation in veterinary medicine at UFSM can be classified as low, because in spite of there being a significant number of papers diffused at the national level, its spread limited to the cientifical community of the area. As the generation of the scientific and technological knowledge, the founding of this research are suitable with the literature, which tells that the same largely happens, inside the universities and research institutes being most of its paradigms endogenous.
