The article analyses the sociological trajectory of different theoretical developments classic and contemporary-around the issue of Education and Society. The text examines the existing articulation between propositions about Education and the global theoretical postulates from which they emerge. The text also sets the limits of the concepts of Education and the functions of the educational process within society with the purpose of getting to know which social factors intervene in the educational processes. In the first part, the text describes the major topics found in classic works of Sociology, restricting its examination to certain basic postulates. In the second part the most relevant issues in the diverse contemporary trends are analyzed.
