Resumen

BRITO, Márcia Regina F. de et al. Exames nacionais: uma análise do ENEM aplicado à matemática. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 2000, vol.05, n.04, pp.45-53. ISSN 1414-4077.

The purpose of this study was to verify the relations between the mathematical part of ENEM (National High School Standardized Examination), reasoning, and students’ performance in Mathematics. The corpus included a total of 338 second-year high school students, 166 of which studied in state schools and 172 in private schools, in the state of São Paulo. The reasoning tests were applied, BPR-5 and a mathematics test with questions form the 1999 ENEM examination, consisting of twelve questions. The mathematics test had four different versions: (1) closed questions, as with the original version; (2) open questions; (3) mixed questions, with the odd ones open and the even ones closed; and (4) mixed questions, with the even ones open and the odd ones closed. Results showed that ENEM is a feasible instrument for evaluating students who finished high school. The study concluded by showing some aspects that could be reelaborated, showing that even though ENEM is a valid instrument, a number of aspects still need improvement.
