This article analyzes the university cooperation based on a study of the Brazilian universities that are members of the Montevideo Group (Associação de Universidades Grupo Montevidéu - AUGM) - a non-governmental organization which congregates public universities from the four Mercosul countries. The focus on inter-university cooperation, centered on the role of AUGM, aims at a more profound reflection upon regional integration, dislocating the axis of the discussion from the economic dimension (production and commercial activities) to another fundamental theme in the process: education and Science and Technology (S&T). The text tries to characterize the insertion of the various institutions in the process of regional integration, through inter-university cooperation and through the identification of its origins and determinant factors, themes of common interest, funding sources, difficulties, structure and organization of AUGM, and institutional engagement (Administrative actions by universities). Through this, we trace a profile of the existing cooperation and we present the so-far identified impacts.
