The article has a summarized approach of the doctoral dissertation entitled: "Evaluation System of Higher Education: an overall view and a comparative analysis between the Brazilian and Portuguese contexts." The objective of this study was to identify what influenced the adoption of the evaluation systems in both countries and, to help in this analysis, four assumptions were elaborated in order to find out the existence of such influence. Besides these assumptions, the logic developed between the autonomy and the evaluation system in these two countries was observed.
