In this text I discuss the new logic of privatization and of the educational quasi-market, reconstructing meanings that these phrases have acquired within the scope of general reforms and within the frame of the current "modernization" of higher education. These transformations touch the very core of education and modify the meanings of "formation" and "educational quality." They require an increase in the state's control power and connect with a new notion of "autonomy", subordinated to the ideology of efficiency and to the fulfillment of aims and purposes, and controlled by "evaluation".
