Abstract

ISKANDAR, Jamil Ibrahim  and  CANDIOTTO, Kleber B.. Influências do dualismo cartesiano e do materialismo na educação tecnicista brasileira: uma abordagem a partir da filosofia da mente de John Searle. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 2002, vol.07, n.03, pp.37-50. ISSN 1414-4077.

This paper, based on John Searle’s Philosophy of Mind, presents a reflection upon the influence of the Cartesian dualism and Materialism on the Brazilian Technicist Education. The text presents some fundamentals and discusses the influence the dualist and materialist thought has had in the past and still has in the beginning of the present century. Arguments indicating that neither dualism nor materialisms sufficiently valid for a plausible understanding of reality are introduced. Finally, some elements of the Brazilian Technicist approach inspired on the two philosophical schools previously mentioned are presented.

Keywords : Technicist Education; Philosophy of Mind; John Searle; Cartesian Dualism; Materialism.
