Abstract

MENEGHE, Stela M.  and  BERTOLIN, Júlio C. G.. INEP's evaluation of teaching conditions. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 2004, vol.09, n.01, pp.151-171. ISSN 1414-4077.

According to LDB/1996, it is the Union's duty to evaluate and supervise higher education programs. The purpose of this text is to discuss the evaluation mechanisms used to evaluate undergraduate programs: INEP's evaluation of teaching conditions (ACE). ACE is an evaluation procedure used for periodically accrediting undergraduate programs - a requirement for issuing diplomas. The analysis here presented was based on documents produced by INEP, reports produced by ACE's commissions, besides interviews with INEP's specialists, and with members of commissions of various fields of knowledge. Initially the text presents some information about the history and objectives of ACE, followed by a discussion of the criteria used for screening and training evaluators, the Commission's procedures (evaluation instruments, on site evaluations, reports, etc.), concluding with the evaluation of ACE's contribution and limitations.

Keywords : Evaluation of Teaching Conditions (ACE); Undergraduate Program Evaluation; Higher Education.
