This paper analyzes the contribution of university extension to the introduction and implementation of curriculum flexibility, based on a methodology that values the social production of knowledge in undergraduate teaching. It also looks at the place of extension among the other university activities (teaching and research), critically reflecting on the privilege given to research over the other two. Finally, the paper discusses the bases of curricular flexibility and an experience report developed by teachers, technicians and students of the Pharmacy, Nutrition and Scenic Arts programs from the Federal University of Ouro Preto, through which important aspects of the curricular flexibility and extension methodology are emphasized.
