The institutional evaluation of the Full Teacher's Training undergraduate program at the Goiás State University, the objective of this research, is presented in this paper, with particular emphasis on an indepth study into the question of method. Our references are based on the presuppositions that undertaking an institutional evaluation is: a) doing research; b) drawing up an institutional policy for self-evaluation; c) developing a culture of evaluation. The method used was Dialectical materialism and the methodology consisted of: a) a diagnostic evaluation with the application of questionnaires and carrying out of interviews; b) action-research. The positive results were the education of approximately 18,000 teachers, who, though working in basic education in Goiás, had previously not belonged to the profession; the democratization of access to higher education, development of citizenship, especially through better salaries and quality of life; local and regional development. Among the negative aspects were the lack of specialized classrooms, of Computer, Biology, Mathematics. Physics and Chemistry laboratories. And of updated libraries and little use of new technologies.
