Abstract

DELPINO, Rosemar  and  BALZAN, Newton César. Educação superior: a qualidade total em questão. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.01, pp.73-89. ISSN 1414-4077.

This article discusses the consequences of Total Quality in Education which focuses on benefits calculated as done in industrial enterprises. The work standardization concept is seen as essential to achieve the "right results" and the consequences of this model have been absorbed in such a way that they began to be seen as necessary conditions for the educational institutions to adequately educate their students, ensuring their entry and permanence in the market place. Education is offered as a consumer good and a profit generator. The role of the university should not be that of creating social and consumer classes but that of creating and socializing knowledge. Quality education is one which promotes citizenship and emancipative knowledge. In order to have effective conditions to create quality education, it is fundamental to have the predisposition of society, educators and government towards a transformative action.
