Based on a literature search in the Library System of the University of Antioquia, digital libraries, journals and specialized databases in education, 26 research studies carried out between 1997 and 2007 were selected to have an approach as to what is currently being researched with regard to the question in higher education. Three perspectives in which research is moving relative to the question were identified. The first refers to the types of questions that are frequently used in higher education. The second, on teaching strategies that are based on the question. And third, about the question to enable the understanding and development of critical thinking.
