The article presents a mapping of the production of knowledge about educational evaluation published in Brazil during the 1980s. The theoretical and methodological framework was based on the literature that discusses the procedures for data collection in bibliometric studies. The results provides the idea of the state of the art of the evolution of this field of knowledge, as well as allow some observations about the construction of the field of evaluation in Brazil, showing, for example, the place of this field and the main authors which form it.
