The evaluation, control and management of post-graduation in Brazil are promoted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), while the programs that do not have any strategic plan develop their actions aiming to comply the requirements of this evaluation system. The general purpose of this research is to analyze the performance of 40 Postgraduation Stricto Sensu programs in the academic modality of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) using Importance-Performance Analysis (AID) proposed by Martilla and James (1977) and Sever (2014). The study has a descriptive nature, constructed through bibliographical review and documentary research. For this purpose, 1.124 items of CAPES triennial evaluations (2010 and 2013) were analyzed, collected from 80 evaluation forms of postgraduate programs. The weight (importance) and the evaluation (performance) granted to them were evaluated. The result of the research is the general diagnosis of the performances of the programs, identifying the crucial items related to the efforts and opportunities for improvement detected in the result of the evaluation of UFRN’s programs.
