Abstract

GARCIA, Léo Manoel Lopes da Silva; LARA, Daiany Francisca  and  ANTUNES, Franciano. Evasion Investigation and Analysis and Its Motivational Factors in Higher Education: a case study in Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.1, pp.112-136. ISSN 1982-5765.  https://doi.org/10.1590/s1414-40772021000100007.

This study performs a diagnostic evaluation of the phenomenon of dropout in higher education, using as a case study a public higher education institution. To this end, a survey of dropout data is carried out for a period of 5 years, and in parallel an investigation with the evaded students about the reasons that led them to evade the course in which they were enrolled. To clarify possible patterns and trends, dropout data are confronted with the influential factors (causes) of dropout. The results show that both the dropout phenomenon and the causes that cause the problem vary according to the area of knowledge of the courses, inferring that there are profiles that react differently to the problems of the academic environment. It is also identified that there are differences in the impact of dropouts caused by each motivating factor of dropout.
