This article aims to report an action research experiment on Science and Environment Education carried out with teachers. first four )'ears and mental I)' disturbed students of a public elementary school located in a inner region of São Paulo State’ in Brazil. Through the work carried out and the outcomes obtained it was possible to change the common sense current ideas (privatists and neoliberals) that: a) it is not possible to carry out a good quality education in public schools: b) it is not possible to carry out research in science education in first years classes of elementary public schools: c) primary schools teachers (first four years) cannot work appropriately the science teaching.
