The problematic of garbage in the urbans areas includes some features to be connected with its origin and production, as well as the concept of inexhaustible and the reflexion of the endangement of environmental, mainly the polution of the ground, the air and the water resources. A research with students of UNESP/ Campus Bauru was done in order to evaluate the knowledge of the university students about the garbage problematic and selective collect and to motivate them for environmental preservation. It was gotten the following results: university students don't worry about the garbage destiny that it was produced by themselves and by other people; they associate the inorganic garbage with recycling and the organic with no-recycling, they know how to separate inorganic garbage from the organic, they give the importance to the selective collect programs, mainly due to worry about the environment. Therefore this research shows the urgency of a awareness and environmental education in relation to a problem of solid wastes, and the unanimity of the necessity of a selective collect helps to decrease the garbage problematic all over the country.
