Abstract

In the present article we initially situate the historical appearance of the Science-Technology-Society movement (STS). As it is a movement emerging in contexts which are quite different from ours, we then discuss aspects to be considered in the configuration of STS’s aims for the Brazilian educational context, identifying potential limitations and challenges. We also remark our lack of democratic experience, which is related to the country’s historical background, as one of the obstacles for decision making regarding science and technology, in a more democratic (more social agents taking part of it) and less technocratic perspective, a core aspect for the STS movement.
