A comparative analysis between the number of students who failed to get a pass grade in the Mathematics I Course (Differential Calculus), the first mathematics course the students take at the Engineering Faculty of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), and the results of the EXUMAT exam, which determines the real educational level in which a student who finishes 12th grade, reaches the University. The results indicate that a greater percentage of the students pass the Mathematics I course in comparison to what is expected according to EXUMAT. The possibilities of this discrepancy are discussed in the present analysis.
