Abstract

This article describes one of the activities developed in the Environmental Science Masters at the Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso (UNEMAT). The research was carried out in the city of Reserva do Cabaçal, and developed through the environmental education connections and activities of the educational collective “Movimento pelas Águas de Reserva do Cabaçal”. This is a partnership between the UNEMAT, Prefeitura Municipal de Reserva do Cabaçal, and WWF - Brazil, representing civil organizations and the city’s population. The database was obtained and analyzed through document analysis, participatory - action - research and oral history. The results of the research demonstrated that a process of environmental education connected to the activities of regeneration of a degraded area can construct a virtuous process where the empowerment of the local community was the focus of the implementation of the environmental education teaching and the knowledge building process was experienced by all those involved.
