Abstract: This study correlated the accuracy of number estimation in two number estimation tests: the Numerosity Test (TENQ) and the Number Line Estimate Test (TERN) for students in the 5th and 6th grades from a public school and from a private school in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state (RS). The main objective of this study was to verify in which estimation task the children present greater accuracy, considering that the tasks involve different abilities. The data indicate that children make estimations that are more precise when the task involves discrete quantities rather than when they estimate numerals by positioning them on a number line, suggesting that tasks require different cognitive functions even if there is a moderate correlation between them for larger numeric scales.
