Abstract

MARINHO, Julio Cesar Bresolin  and  SILVA, João Alberto da. The moral and ethical analysis in the health care of Cape Verdean and Brazilian adolescents regarding the consumption of cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and anabolics. Ciência educ. [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.2, pp.297-315.  Epub June 19, 2019. ISSN 1980-850X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1516-731320190020003.

Adolescent health has been the subject of discussions because these subjects are vulnerable. In this paper we deal with the issue of cigarettes, alcohol / drug and anabolic steroid consumption and try to analyze moral and ethical perceptions about the issue. The research is qualitative, and the method used was the Case Study. Five focal groups were held to address moral dilemmas. Participants included 45 adolescents from Cape Verde and Brazil. In order not to use drugs it is evident that the construction of positive representations of the self is important, but sometimes adolescents find themselves coerced by pressure from the group. Regarding the use of anabolic substances, they have alleged that such use is incorrect, it is harmful, and that one should think about health instead. They believe that teenagers end up using those substances because they think only about the present and seek perfection.
