Ciência educ. [online]. 2020, vol.26, e20005.  Epub May 13, 2020. ISSN 1980-850X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1516-731320200005.

Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) is a chlorinated mixture that has been publicized on the Internet as a medicine that can cure various pathologies without offering side effects. However, there is no scientific study that proves the medicinal qualities alleged, and entities from several countries have warned about the risks of using the substance. One of the goals of chemistry education is to train people critically and enable them to evaluate information and recognize fake news. Based on this, this paper aims to analyze the use of MMS controversy in social networks and other virtual platforms as a learning vector, with a view to teaching chemistry from the perspective of Scientific and Technological Literacy.

Keywords : Chemistry teaching; Scientific literacy; MMS; Fake-news; Pseudoscience.
