DINIZ, Natália de Paiva e ASSIS, Alice. Teaching about the nature of science: A case study of two secondary science teachers. Ciência educ. [online]. 2024, vol.30, e24046. Epub 18-Out-2024. ISSN 1980-850X. https://doi.org/10.1590/1516-731320240046.
The purpose of this article is to examine the factors that guided the teaching of the Nature of Science (NOS) by two high school science teachers who participated in an online professional development course, in order to infer what might facilitate or hinder the integration of such aspects in the classroom. A case study was conducted based on observations of these teachers' face-to-face classes over a six-week period during the COVID-19 pandemic. The class transcripts were analyzed through the lens of pedagogical content knowledge to identify the prioritized knowledge, practices, and values that guided their pedagogical practice. It was found that knowledge of NOS aspects is essential for pedagogical practices that explicitly and reflectively align the curriculum with these aspects, and that teachers' values and beliefs about teaching influence their instructional choices.
