SANTOS, Alef Bruno dos e MORAES, Edgar Perin. From fiction to education: Unveiling matter and its transformations in the animes Dr. Stone and AniQuimera. Ciência educ. [online]. 2024, vol.30, e24053. Epub 19-Nov-2024. ISSN 1980-850X. https://doi.org/10.1590/1516-731320240053.
This study analyzes the fourth episode of Dr. Stone's anime and the first episode of the AniQuimera webtoon to explore new instructional strategies that enhance student participation and learning. Using a qualitative and inductive approach, the research involved 28 first-year middle school students and resulted in the collaborative creation of the AniQuimera webtoon, which addresses concepts of physical and chemical changes in matter. Analysis of the mental maps created by the students showed that the use of anime as a starting point for discussion and as an advance organizer promoted meaningful learning. Although anime alone does not guarantee this type of learning, the subsequent discussion and creation of the webtoon proved effective. AniQuimera is available online in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. It had a high access rate and had been validated by 88 students, including ninth-graders and middle-school students.
