Abstract

SANCHEZ, Ysbelia  and  CAMEJO, Ivana. Agricultural Engineering students' previous conceptions of Molecular Biology Techniques: An applied instructional investigation based on concept maps. Ciência educ. [online]. 2025, vol.31, e25002.  Epub Feb 11, 2025. ISSN 1980-850X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1516-731320250002.

This study examines the didactic, interpretive, and descriptive approaches used to assess the prior knowledge of undergraduate agricultural engineering students regarding key techniques in molecular biology. The aim is to gather relevant information for a comprehensive teaching unit that integrates virtual and remote laboratories. We used a unified scoring method and the General Index of Integrative Construction of Meanings to evaluate the concept maps. The information provided insights into two main areas: first, it helped clarify the understanding of integrative concepts, their organization, and potential levels of complexity; second, it addressed the degree of integrative construction of each student's initial understanding. These findings are critical for designing future strategies to promote meaningful learning.
