Abstract

NEVES, Maria da Conceição  and  SASAKI, Daniel Guilherme Gomes. Project-based learning in elementary school science: A systematic review. Ciência educ. [online]. 2025, vol.31, e25009.  Epub Mar 11, 2025. ISSN 1980-850X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1516-731320250009.

This paper reviews the national literature on Project-based Learning (PBL) methodology, specifically in the context of science education at the elementary level. The systematic review selected and analyzed a sample of 42 journals published between 2013 and 2023, classified in Qualis stratum A in Teaching and Education, according to the PRISMA-2020 protocol. The analysis focused on experiences with this active learning methodology, and the conclusions revealed both positive and challenging aspects. The reviewed papers emphasized conceptual learning, with methodological guidelines based on Bender and rooted in constructivist theoretical frameworks. Overall, there is evidence that PBL is flexible in its implementation and also effective in enhancing student learning and skill development, particularly in light of the unique characteristics of the Brazilian educational context.
