Abstract

TAMAROZZI, Kauê Henrique; CORTELA, Beatriz Salemme Corrêa  and  KONDARZEWSKI, Isabel Cristina de Castro. University extension in a physics program at a public university: Teachers' social representations in light of the subject's collective discourse. Ciência educ. [online]. 2025, vol.31, e25011.  Epub Mar 11, 2025. ISSN 1980-850X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1516-731320250011.

This study examines the views of undergraduate physics professors working in programs at a public university regarding outreach activities in the curriculum. We analyzed professors’ interpretations of these extension activities using the Collective Subject Discourse technique. Based on semi-structured interviews, the findings indicate that professors view these activities as essential for linking theoretical knowledge with practical application in the training of future teachers. In addition, the results highlight the need for continuous adaptation of the new curriculum prescribed by the institution to meet legal and social requirements. The professors see outreach as a valuable opportunity to enhance academic training by promoting more relevant learning experiences that relate to the realities of students. Furthermore, these activities are crucial for developing practical skills and strengthening the connection between the university and the community.

Keywords : University extension; Initial teacher training; Social representation; Collective subject discourse.
