This study uses a PRISMA-style systematic review to identify the opportunities and challenges when teaching science to deaf students. It focuses on papers presented at the Congress Encontro Nacional de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências (ENPEC). The study employs a qualitative approach and includes an analysis of eleven articles. The results of this analysis led to the development of three key categories: a general overview of the studies, an examination of the context surrounding the research, and an exploration of the disciplines addressed in each work. We highlighted two significant aspects of deaf education: bilingual and inclusive perspectives. Additionally, the findings reveal several gaps, including deficiencies in teacher training, a lack of conceptual mastery among interpreters, and the absence of signs for scientific concepts in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). Nevertheless, the research indicates that incorporating Libras into science classes facilitates the construction of scientific knowledge.
