Abstract

BELINTANE, Claudemir. Oralidade, alfabetização e leitura: enfrentando diferenças e complexidades na escola pública. Educ. Pesqui. [online]. 2010, vol.36, n.03, pp.685-703. ISSN 1517-9702.

The text reports on a research in the field of the teaching of reading and writing carried out with two first year classes of fundamental education at a public school in the city of São Paulo. Starting from diagnostics based on the oral culture of the pupils that displayed learning difficulties in reading even after three or four years of schooling, we sought to create, administer, and monitor a teaching program based on the transition between oral culture and written culture. It is a research of qualitative nature, whose concern is to deal with the heterogeneity of the classroom in its process and in its complexity. The theoretical framework is multidisciplinary, including areas of study under the purview of linguistics, psychoanalysis, and education and, also, of the work of researchers of the field conventionally denominated “oral-literate equation” (Havelock, 1995). The results bring data, reports of interventions, and reflections that can help to structure teaching programs for the age group studied here, whilst questioning the excessive focus that constructivist methodologies place upon the act of writing or on writing itself. It puts forward a new perspective of the intertwining between pupils’ oral culture and school literacy, assuming an ambience of orality, literacy, and reading that includes electronic media and a more collective organization of the school work in the first series, particularly in the articulation (“hinge”) between early childhood education and the first grade.
