Abstract

CORREIA, José Alberto de Azevedo e Vasconcelos; ARELARO, Lisete Regina Gomes  and  FREITAS, Luiz Carlos de. Where do current educational assessments go?. Educ. Pesqui. [online]. 2015, vol.41, n.spe, pp.1275-1281. ISSN 1678-4634.  https://doi.org/10.1590/S1517-9702201508148846.

This dossier has different studies, research and opinions about the educational evaluation in the current world. It consists of seven articles by professors from Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Finland and Portugal and an interview with Prof. John MacBeath, from England. Such work develops interesting critical reflections on the impasses of the transformation of large-scale assessments into a single strategy to measure the performance of students in all educational levels. The authors show that the evaluation of educational quality is a more complex process that, to be successful, requires inter alia the conscious participation of those involved. Other aspects discussed are the importance of ethics in these evaluation processes – since, due to the incompatibility of their requirements with everyday school life, they have led to corruption in education – and the distortion that the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) has brought about, especially in the analysis of the reasons for the success of students in Finnish schools.

Keywords : Educational assessment; Negotiated quality; Participatory evaluation.
