Abstract

BUNGENSTAB, Gabriel Carvalho; SOUZA, Juliano de  and  GARCIA, Rui Proença. Towards a theory of sports capital: Bourdieu – Lahire talks. Educ. Pesqui. [online]. 2022, vol.48, e253013.  Epub Sep 02, 2022. ISSN 1678-4634.  https://doi.org/10.1590/s1678-4634202248253013por.

The current study aims at discussing a possible way to make up a sort of dispositionalist model that embodies sport as an unvaluable asset. In light of Pierre Bourdieu´s main ideas, such made up disposionalist model might shade light on the terrain of physical education and sport sciences as well. As such, on the ground of french sociology, whose dispositionalist constructs are in a sense recovered, we intend to single out how sportive dispositions (a somewhat durable achievement) are relational deduced from a cumulative ‘sports capital’. We reviewed some studies attached to distinct athletes and their sportive pathways; their modalities turn out to require an explanation as regard to these sportive pathways beyond uniform parenthood. Takeaways: a properly dispositionalist agenda within Brazilian physical education/sport sciences is offered; the so-called ‘sports capital’ enlarges personal achievements within the field of sports; both family and physical education proceeded in the school contribute to sports socialization.

Keywords : Pierre Bourdieu; Habitus; Sports capital; Physical education.
