The main objective of this paper is attempting to determine if the current social position of teachers in the social structure in Argentina can be attributed to the result of the development of a process of proletarianization. To achieve this, both theoretical conceptualizations on proletarianization processes, particularly those related to scholars in general and to teachers in particular, and research on living and working conditions of teachers in Argentina are analyzed. From these sources, a set of hypotheses are built, which are contrasted with the analysis of data on teachers in the city of Buenos Aires. Data were collected from a survey applied in 2007 to a representative sample.
