Resumen

The text presents a reflection on the expansion of elementary school, by analyzing how its materialization is happening. To this end, it starts rescuing the expansion process of compulsory schooling in Brazil and the reflection on the reasons why there are so many discussions on the effectiveness of the law nº 11.274/2006, highlighting some challenges posed by the expansion of elementary school, in order to analyze the pedagogical implications of current legislation. The paper proposes ideas that pervade the field of teaching and motivation to learn. In conclusion, it highlights the need to value childhood and pedagogical aspects specific to this phase, whose success will be made upon the guarantee of public politics committed to social reality and quality schooling for children.
