This text aims at discussing how nine-year Elementary School is inserted into childhood government practices and how these practices make another school place possible for six-year-old children, regarding Michel Foucault’s notion of governmentality. In order to do so, some documents were used dealing with the nine-year Elementary School policy written by both the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as newspaper reports about this subject published along the period in which the implementation of this policy was more intense (2005-2008). This text focuses on the six-year-old children’s place in Elementary School, in an attempt to show that, by displacing six-year-old to Elementary School, the borders between the two levels of education have become blurred, and such displacement may cause the production of a six-year-old student subject.
