Abstract

This article discusses the process of consolidating the nine-year Elementary School in the public school system in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil, and it specifically focuses on the integration of five-year-old children. The focus of the research was to check the pedagogical referral regarding the teaching of written language for children in the first year in public schools in 2009 and 2010. As a result, there was the prevalence of traditional teaching methods, although the official guiding documents bring in it the need of a methodology that overcomes the simple adjustment of the old to the new division. The episodes analyzed in this study were part of the methodological procedures organized into two interrelated stages: field research and literature/documents review based on the assumptions of the historical-cultural theory.
