This paper discusses the identity of Early Childhood Education and its teachers, and it points out what are the challenges and perspectives for its reconstruction. This research analyzes the concepts of school and teacher that circulating in the literature of this area, identifying the Kindergarten teachers as responsible to provide objective conditions under which knowledge is processed, and Preschools as privileged institutions to provide the tools for children to learn about the world and the knowledge surrounding it. This study highlighted the need to broaden the discussion on the subject in order to find ways to rebuild the identity of the Early Childhood Education teachers, which needs to be thought of in terms of recognition of the teaching career and its social, political and professional roles, as well as highlighting the real importance of Preschools in the Early Childhood Centers.
