Abstract

Starting from the legislative analysis prepared for the Education of Children and some studies already run in this area, we present a historical approach of this stage of education, particularly in the context of education for children from 0 to 3 years old and also from the first cycle of Basic Education. Throughout the article is highlighted relevant historical and political periods which had a direct influence on the current scenario of Portuguese Early Childhood Education in Portugal as well as the importance that Childhood Education has been taking over the legislative frameworks.
