The present study approaches meaningful times in national policies and legislation related to the view of children, curriculum and Early Childhood Education teacher’s work. It also reflects on the advancement and challenges originated from these national policies and legislation. Some possibilities of shaping teachers’ identity as well as the corresponding identity of day-care centers/pre-schools are pointed out. Thus, the term care-educate is redefined as a necessary qualitative element in order to build a curriculum for children, but mainly for teacher qualification programs. Finally, some plans originating from the national Early Childhood Education policies are suggested. This article intends to offer contributory reflections about the identity of Brazilian Early Childhood Education teachers and day-care centers/pre-schools, therefore, reference is made to the curriculum that is able to provide the specificity and function suitable for Brazilian Early Childhood Education.
