The article examined the role of the educational coordinator in continuing education at the School of Leitores, with the following question in mind: how does the coordinator harmonize the demands of the Municipal Secretary of Education with the school’s proposal for continuing teacher education? Based on the contributions of Rui Canário, Maurice Tardif, Stephen Ball and co-authors, we analyzed data collected from the observation of 13 meetings, analysis of the curriculum guidelines, pedagogical support notebooks, and reading projects. The research showed that the coordinator’s work is in accord with the proposal of the Secretary of Education regarding the compliance of the syllabus for each school year. At the same time, the coordinator encourages reading and guides her teachers to monitor students’ levels through formative assessment. Moreover, because the school has a well-defined reading and writing project, she is able to develop a continuing education project with other educators, contemplating the experiences and needs of the group.
